Litchfield Welcomes Return Of Markets

Posted

The Litchfield Pickers Market will reopen in conjunction with Mother’s Day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Sunday, May 9, in downtown Litchfield; use 400 N. State Street for GPS directions. The Litchfield Pickers Market is the largest open-air pickers market in the area and specializes in antiques, collectibles, vintage items and refurbished items.

Each month the Litchfield Pickers Market welcomes musicians to perform at the Carnegie Park stage. During the Sunday, May 9th market, the Mound City Slickers will kick off the day with a live performance from 9 a.m., to 11:30 a.m., followed by B &B Strings from noon to 3 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or picnic blanket for seating.

This year, the markets will have some structural changes to ensure public safety and sanitation standards for visitors, vendors, and staff. These changes include expanded vendor areas to ensure adequate social distancing. Due to these changes, vendors will be in additional locations, so make sure to walk and view all areas of the market. The City of Litchfield will follow the CDC’s mask mandates, and guests are asked to follow safe social distancing practices. To aid in public sanitation efforts, everyone will be asked to directly dispose of their own trash into provided dumpsters located throughout the market.

Music will still be held in the park, but visitors will be required to bring their own seating to avoid the frequently touched surfaces of communal picnic tables. The City of Litchfield will be following the guidelines set forth by the CDC and will adapt them as deemed necessary throughout the year.

Organizers recommended bringing totes, wagons, carts, pick-up trucks and anything that will help haul all the great treasures to be found at the Litchfield Pickers Market. While exploring the market, please check out the exclusive 2021 Litchfield Pickers Market t-shirt found at the Litchfield Tourism information booth, as well as hats and tote bags. At this booth, volunteers will be able to  provide information and answer questions.

Food will be available along State Street located at every intersection. Food vendors and their locations are listed at the Tourism Information booth as well as on the Litchfield Pickers website at http://visitlitchfield.com/events/litchfieldpickersmarket/. Animals are not permitted at the Litchfield Pickers Market.

The following roads will be closed from 4 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Sunday, May 9, and every second Sunday of the month through October: State Street from Union Ave./Route 16 to the south entrance of the Brown Shoe Apartments, Ryder Street and Kirkham Street from Monroe Street to Madison Street, Edwards Street from Monroe Street to Jefferson Street, Monroe Street from Union Ave./Route 16 to Edwards Street, and Jackson Street from Union Ave./Route 16 to Edwards Street.
