Litchfield Track Sweeps At Staunton

The Litchfield boys and girls track teams picked up 20 wins and a sweep on Monday, May 24, as they defeated Staunton and Roxana on the Bulldogs’ home track.

The Litchfield boys would have nine of those wins and collected 99 points on the night. Staunton would be second with 74 points, while Roxana was third with 54.

The Panthers picked up four wins on the track in the 400, 800, 1600 and 3200, with Camden Quarton winning the latter two. The freshman standout ran a 4:52.4 to win the 1600 and an 11:20.7 to win at double that distance.

Kevin Pollard took the win in the 800 with a time of 2:25.9, while Cameron Crow won the 400 with a time of 52.1. Crow also won the high jump with a mark of 1.87 meters, one of two field event wins for LHS, with Will Carlile clearing 4.1 meters for the other victory in the pole vault.

Paul Cowgill had the other individual victory with a first in the 110 hurdles, clocking in at 20.9, while Litchfield also won the 4x200 and 4x800. The 800-meter relay team of Keenan Powell, Kevin Pollard, Brandon Malloy and Will Carlile ran a time of 3:50.5, while the 3200-meter relay was won in a time of 9:45.9 by the team of Alex DeLaCruz, Allen Schneider, Brandon Malloy and Kevin Pollard.

Litchfield Girls

The LHS girls would have an equally decisive victory as they racked up 11 wins, 91.5 points and beat Roxana by 24 and Staunton by 67.5.

The Lady Panthers won all thre of the relays they entered, starting with the 4x100, where they ran a time of 53.9 with the team of Carson Lemon, Kendall Stewart, Kate Komor and Carly Guinn. Guinn and Komor also ran the 4x200, teaming up with Sarah Yakana and Lily Braasch to win in a time of 1:55.5, while Komor and Yakana also ran the 4x400 with Emma Dively and Madison Alvarado in a time of 4:38.1.

The relay participants  also had their fair share of individual success. Carson Lemon won the 100 meter hurdles (17.7 seconds) and pole vault (2.75 meters), while Kendall Stewart won the 100 (13.6 seconds) and 400 (1:03.4 seconds). Lily Braasch and Sarah Yakana also had individual wins, with Braasch running a 30.5 in the 200 and Yakana leaping 4.78 meters in the long jump.

In addition to the relay runners, Kylee Eiting and Carly Guinn also picked up wins in Staunton. Eiting ran a 15:23.4 in the 3200, while Guinn won the high jump with a mark of 1.52 meters.

Litchfield’s next meet is Thursday, May 27, at Pana for the South Central Conference championships.
