Litchfield Stays Perfect, Lancers Shoot Best Round

It was ideal weather and an ideal result for the Lady Panthers on Monday, Sept. 14, as the Litchfield girls golf team picked up wins number nine and ten on the season, and a share of the top individual spot as well.

The Panthers would shoot a 182 on the day to match their season-best team score, with all four scoring rounds under 50 for the first time this year. Carlinville would be second with a 197 on the day, while Lincolnwood was third with a 204.

Litchfield’s Laura Boston and Carlinville’s Elsa Mefford would go shot for shot for the top spot in the individual rankings, with the two standouts tying in the end. Both Boston and Mefford shot 4-over-par 41s on the day, a prequel of possible things to come at the South Central Conference Tournament on Sept. 28.

The rest of the Lady Panthers were just as good as they put together six solid rounds as a team. Carly Guinn would add in a 45, which tied for the third best score of the day, while Hailey Rentz added a 47. Alyssa Loyd also broke 50, shooting a 49 to beat her previous season best by five strokes.

Olivia Fleming and Lauren Monke would carry the fifth and sixth spots for the Panthers, shooting matching rounds of 56, which would have been scoring rounds for either of their opponents.

While Lincolnwood didn’t come away with a win at the meet, they did produce their lowest team score of the season.

Both Jordyn Gerlach and Jhia Walker would turn in their lowest scores of the year, with Gerlach shooting a 45 to tie Guinn for third overall. Walker would produce the Lancers third best score with a 54, beating her previous best of 55 from Lincolnwood’s home match on Sept. 10.

Micah Gehlbach would join Gerlach in the sub-50 club as she shot a 49 on the day, while Shelby Hattenbach added in a 56 for Lincolnwood’s fourth scoring round.

Marisa Webb and Dorie Krager wouldn’t be far from their teammate as they both finished with 58s on the day.

The Lancers will travel to Pana to take on Taylorville and the host Panthers on Thursday, Sept. 17, while Litchfield will be off until Wednesday, Sept. 23, when they also travel to Pana, to take on the home team and Hillsboro.

The two Montgomery County teams also played in the Lady Viper Invite on Saturday, Sept. 12. Full results form both teams follow.
