The Litchfield boys track team took first in 13 of the 16 events they entered on Wednesday, May 19, as the Panthers picked up 78 points to win a home meet against Greenville and Hillsboro.

The Panthers would beat the Comets by 21 and short-handed Hillsboro by 72 at the meet, which was pushed back a day due to rain on Tuesday.

Three different individuals had two wins in the running events for the Panthers. Cameron Crow won the 200 and 400 in times of 23.7 and 51.7, while Camden Quarton won the 1600 and 3200 in times of 4:53.1 and 10:30.7 respectively. The other two wins came in the hurdles, where Paul Cowgill won the 110-meter hurdles in 20.4 seconds and the 300-meter version of the event in 49.2 seconds.

The trio would also play a part in the success of the Litchfield relay teams, which won the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800. Cowgill, Cameron, Keenan Powell and Hunter Hancock won the 4x100 in 47.6 seconds, while Quarton teammed up with Powell, Kevin Pollard and Brandon Malloy to win the 4x400 in a time of 3:57.3. In the 4x800, Alex DeLaCruz, Allen Schneier, Malloy and Pollard ran a 10:36.9 to win that event.

In the field events, Crow picked up another victory, winning the high jump over Powell by ten centimeters, 1.82 to 1.72 meters.

Owen Baugher would sweep the throws with a 9.79 meter toss in the shot and a 30.68 meter throw in the discus, while Will Carlile won the pole vault with a clearance of 4.1 meters, well above the state qualifying standard of 3.7 meters.

With just two athletes available for the meet, Hillsboro would take a win in the triple jump as Austin Page posted a mark of 10.14 meters, with three other entries finishing in the top four at Litchfield. Page also took second in the 200 with a time of 25.6 and fourth in the 100 with a time of 12.4, while Cole Lenczycki was third in the shot put with a mark of 9.37 meters.

Both teams will be in Pana on Thursday, May 27, for the South Central Conference meet. The two are split up for sectionals, with Litchfield going to the Class 1A Gillespie Sectional on June 11 and Hillsboro going to the Class 2A Lincoln Sectional on June 10.
