Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, located at 700 South State St., in Litchfield. Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home, with Pastor Rudy Elam officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.
Mrs. Roach was born March 24, 1956, in Litchfield, a daughter of William T. Weatherford and Margaret A. (Orblish) Childers and graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1974. She married Dennis W. Roach on July 31, 1982, in Litchfield, and they shared 44 years of marriage together.
She worked for the United States Department of Agriculture as an Administrative Officer in the Veterinary Services Department and retired in 2011, after 30 years of service. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed throwing horseshoes, bowling, playing softball, corn hole and bingo. She also enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Crabtree Ringers Horseshoe Club. She won the State of Illinois Women’s Horseshoe Championship three times. She was a huge Dallas Cowboys football fan, but nothing compared to her love for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was full of life and could be described as a spitfire by those who knew her well. She was a great cook, but preferred her pork steaks burnt with barbecue sauce, unlike anyone else in the family.
Mrs. Roach was a loving wife, devoted grandmother, proud great-grandmother and cherished friend whose love for her family was at the center of everything she did. Her family was her greatest blessing, and her world revolved around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her endless joy, laughter and purpose. Her love for them was immeasurable, and the memories she created with them will forever live on in their hearts. Of course, no story about her would be complete without mentioning her beloved cat, Tippy, who held a special place in her heart.
She was a woman who knew how to enjoy life and make the most of every moment. Whether she was pitching horseshoes, playing cornhole, traveling to new places, or heading to Florida to enjoy her second home, she loved making memories and spending time doing the things she enjoyed. She found peace and happiness in the outdoors, where she loved planting flowers, feeding the birds and taking in the beauty of nature. She had a special way of appreciating the simple things in life and finding joy in the moments that mattered most.
Mrs. Roach was a strong, spirited, and determined woman-a true spitfire who lived life on her own terms. Throughout her life, she met each challenge with strength and courage that showed just how tough she truly was. She never gave up, never stopped fighting and never let life’s hardships take away the fire that made her who she was. Her resilience was a testament to her incredible spirit and the strength she carried within her.
Above all, she will be remembered for her fierce love, her strong will, her unforgettable personality and the deep devotion she had for the people and things she held dear. She leaves behind a family who loved her beyond words, friends who will miss her dearly and countless memories that will be treasured for generations to come. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her love will continue to bloom in every flower she planted, in the birds she loved to feed, in the laughter shared over a game of corn hole or horseshoes, in the memories made traveling and camping, and most of all, in the hearts of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Roach fought hard, loved fiercely and lived life with a spirit that could never be broken. Her legacy will live on through the family she loved so deeply and the lives she touched along the way. Her strength, her love and her fire will never be forgotten.
Mrs. Roach is survived by her husband, Dennis W. Roach of Carlinville; daughter, Marcie (Joe) Perkins of Carlinville; daughter, Lisa (Odessa) Thurman of Magnolia, TX; nine grandchildren, Kaity (Brady), Shelby, Maddie, Jason, Jake, Jalyn (Mitch), Jasmine, Junior (Lauryn) and Brieanna; 12 great-grandchildren; and her orange cat, Tippy.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
