Mother Nature did its best to keep the Lincolnwood soccer team off the field this week, raining out their game with Hillsboro on March 25, but the Lancers were finally able to see the field for the second time this season on Friday, March 26.
Taking on Springfield Lutheran on the Crusaders’ home pitch, Lincolnwood scored the game’s only goal midway through the second half and hung on for a 1-0 victory.
For more than 60 minutes of game time, the two MSM Conference rivals battled it out to a scoreless draw. Finally, Levi Weir would break the tie, slotting in Lincolnwood’s first goal of the season with 18 minutes to play.
The Crusaders would try for the equalizer in the final minutes and were nearly successful, but the Lincolnwood defense turned them away to improve to 1-1 on the year.
The Lancers will celebrate senior night on Monday, March 29, as they host the Lanphier Lions at 5:30 p.m. On Tuesday, March 30, they travel to Carlinville to take on a talented Cavalier squad, followed by a rescheduled date with Hillsboro on March 31, at Terry Todt Field in Raymond.
