Larry William Hindle, 76, died Thursday, July 2, 2026, at his home in Hillsboro.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., on Friday, July 10, at Hough-Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with the Rev. Dan Willenborg presiding. Inurnment will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 9, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hough-Dean.
Mr. Hindle was born to William Bert and Mary Louise (Swayze) Hindle in Mendota on July 26, 1949.
Mr. Hindle graduated from Earlville High School in 1967. He then attended U of I receiving his BS in engineering. He and his wife, Nancy (Merna) Hindle, were married in 1972, at St. Mary’s Church in Canton. Mr. Hindle and his wife were happily married for 53 years.
He began his career at Rivinius Manufacturing in Eureka, working as an engineer making large parts for Caterpillar equipment. He later went on to complete a degree in education, becoming a teacher at Sparland School District in 1976. He and his wife moved to Hillsboro, and he became a math and science teacher at Hillsboro Unit 3 School District for 34 years until his retirement in 2009.
Mr. Hindle gave selflessly of himself to his community and his family. He was a member of the Sertoma Club. He volunteered with the local food pantry, Meals on Wheels and St. Agnes Church. He also belonged to Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting ducks, deer, turkey and doves. He also enjoyed fishing trips and U of I football games with friends. Mr. Hindle spent many hours working on his land preparing it for hunting season and always keeping it ready for others to enjoy, especially his family. He and his wife enjoyed tropical trips with his sister and her husband. He very much enjoyed pestering his grandkids with his sense of humor and attending their sporting events and activities.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Mr. Hindle is survived by his daughter, Elise (Andy) Kindernay of Hillsboro; his sister, Cindy (Chuck) Lippert of Earlville; and two grandchildren, Sawyer Hindle and Albany Kindernay of Hillsboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Adam Hindle; his brother, Douglas Hindle; and his sister, Linda Lonie.
