Larry “Doc” Prose, 76, of Morrisonville, died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at 12:14 p.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date. Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville is assisting the family.

Mr. Prose was born Nov. 5, 1946, in Litchfield, the son of Loren A. “Bill” and Gladys L. (O’Brien) Prose. He married Sharon Lynn Bolen on Oct. 31, 1970, at the Davis Memorial Christian Church, and they enjoyed over 52 years of marriage. She survives.

He graduated from Morrisonville High School with the class of 1964 and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Vietnam War. He was employed at Caterpillar for 44 years, retiring as a company man.

Mr. Prose was community-minded, serving on many civic boards and volunteering his time and talent for many local organizations. He was dedicated to the VFW Post #4495 for decades, cooking for every fundraiser, bartending at “Afterglow,” holding various positions and serving on the burial detail until his death.

He served as treasurer on both the PMRA board and board of directors for the Morrisonville-Palmer Fire Protection District for many years. He was also a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrisonville and longtime member of the American Legion Post #721 in Morrisonville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Prose is survived by his daughter, Jacinda Prose of Taylorville; son, Lex (wife Rhonda) Prose of Forks, WA; grandchildren, Alexa (husband Ben) Hylton, Cort (wife Lindsay) Prose, Whitlee Prose, Trent Prose and Matilda “Tilly” Prose, all of Forks, WA; great-grandchildren, Lane and Ryan Hylton and Booker Prose; brother, Carl (wife Mary) Prose of Streamwood; sister, Carolyn Prose of Morrisonville; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Edward Prose.
