The Lincolnwood volleyball team picked up a pair of straight-set victories to end the week as they took care of MSM Conference foes Calvary and Tri-City on back-to-back nights in Raymond.
On Thursday, Oct. 7, the Lancers made short work of the Saints, winning 25-13, 25-18 at the Woodshed. The win wasn’t only Lincolnwood’s 23rd of the season, but it was the program’s 950th in the 48-year history of the team.
Linconwood’s serving game was on point, with Desi Pitchford and Sidney Glick both racking up 10 points each. Pitchford also had three aces in the win, while Glick and Funderburk added an ace apiece.
On the attack, Hailee Belsher finished 13 kills, her 19th game with a double digit total in that stat category this season. Jazmin Seaton-Hobson also had six kills, while Desi Pitchford (5) and Haelee Damm (3) also had multiple point-scoring hits. Tessa Funderburk and Avery Pope led the team in assistw, with 17 and seven respectively.
Defensively, Belcher had three blocks and Funderburk had one to control the net, while Jasmine Vickery and Sidney Glick both had double digit dig totals. Vickery led the team with 14 digs, while Glick added 10 digs, more than a quarter of the Lancers’ 39 as a team.
Lincolnwood’s win over Tri-City the next day was just as decisive as they won 25-14, 25-18 to improve to 24-4 on the season.
The Lancers hammered the Tornadoes, putting down 28 kills to Tri-City’s eight. Hailee Belsher had half of those kills with 14, while Haelee Damm (6), Desi Pitchford (4), Jazmin Seaton-Hobson (2) and Sidney Glick (2) also contributed on the attack. Tessa Funderburk and Avery Pope split setting duties, posting 11 and 10 respectively.
One reason for the Tornadoes hitting woes was the success of the Lincolnwood defense. Glick had 12 of Lincolnwood’s 42 digs, while Seaton-Hobson added in seven digs. Haelee Damm and Tessa Funderburk also had five digs each, while Belsher (2) and Pitchford (1) split three blocks.
In the serving game, Belsher, Damm and Pitchford racked up six points each, while Jasmine Vickery had five points and two aces.
Lincolnwood will hit the road for their next game as they play Mt. Olive on Tuesday, Oct. 12, on the Wildcats’ home floor.
The game will be a prequel for the Lancers’ opening game of the Edinburg Regional, where they are the second seed in the subsectional. That game will take place on Oct. 25, with the winner playing either Edinburg or Nokomis in round two.
