Lady Rams Say Goodbye To Senior Trio At Regionals

Posted

The Ramsey-Nokomis girls golf team ended their season on Wednesday, Oct. 7, with a trip to the highly competitive Taylorville Regional at Lakeshore Golf Course.

The Lady Rams would finish 13th at Taylorville, shooting a 502 on the day. Springfield Catholic school Sacred Heart-Griffin was first with a 333, while Auburn was second with a 367.

The match would be the last one for Ramsey’s three seniors, Brenna Hayes, Brooke Benhoff and Clara Klieboeker. Hayes, who has been the Rams’ most consistent player this season, continued to lead the way as she shot a 107 at Lakeshore. After finishing strong with a par on the 18th hole to write down a 55 on the back nine, Hayes shot a 52 on the front nine to finish with a 35-over-par.

Benhoff would add in a 115 for the Rams with nine-hole scores of 57 and 58 as she finished 49th on the day, while Klieboeker shot a 137 to finish 70th, with rounds of 69 and 68.

Coree Keagy, the Nokomis freshman, rounded out the lineup for the Lady Rams, shooting a 143 on the day. Keagy, who had rounds of 72 and 71, gained a lot of experience this year and should be the better for it in 2021.

Hopefully, she will get that opportunity, but with three of the four players graduating from this year’s team, numbers could be an issue. If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that opportunities shouldn’t be wasted and hopefully Keagy and others who want to play golf from Ramsey and Nokomis will get the chance to next year.
