Katherine “Kathy” S. Akers, 69, of Gillespie, died at her residence at 11:38 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Friends may call on Monday, April 6, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services are Tuesday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie. Burial will be at Gillespie Cemetery.
Mrs. Akers was born Sept. 16, 1956, in Wood River to Charles Edward McGee and Nancy Lee Bailey McGee. She married Billy Joe Akers on April 12, 2009, in Gillespie.
Mrs. Akers enjoyed going to auctions and yard sales, collecting angels and porcelain dolls and being with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Akers is survived by her spouse, Billy Joe Akers of Gillespie; children, Jennifer Brown of Hillsboro, Robert Jones of Carlinville and Ashley Jones of Lincoln; grandchildren, Ariel Boeck, Deven Boeck, Savhanna Brown, Saiyge Brown, D.J. Brown, Kaiyden Brown, Jaye’cee Ziegler, Blakely Jones and Phoenix Jones; great-grandchildren, Sophia Eaton, Paisley Eaton, Bentley Eaton, Rowan Eaton, Leanna Boeck and Zane Brand; sisters, Patricia (Michael) Jones of South Carolina, Tina Faulkner of Bunker Hill and Janice (Bradley) Mills of Brighton; and brother, Mark (Shirley) McGee of Brighton.
Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her parents, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and best friend, Rob (Chico) Lytle.
