Judith Ann “Judy” Stroup, 71

Judith Ann “Judy” Stroup, 71, of Decatur, formerly of Litchfield, died Dec. 24, 2021, at 11:40 a.m., at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 31, at 10 a.m., at the Litchfield Family Funeral Service. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at noon at the funeral home, with Pastor Fred Kraemer, minister of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Ridge Cemetery in Honey Bend.

Mrs. Stroup was born June 9, 1950 in Quincy, the daughter of Laurence and Darlene (Coulson) Hull. She married Lewis Gurley in 1968 and was married for 15 years and had four children. They later divorced. She then married Wayne Stroup and remained married for 11 years before they divorced.

Mrs. Stroup moved with her family to Litchfield when she was two years old, and she graduated from Litchfield High School. She worked in the accounting department of Illinois Power in Decatur for 27 years, and then retired from International Control Services in Decatur after 19 years. In her early days, she loved square dancing, playing cards and being a member of the Caterpillar Camping Club. Through her life she was an avid bowler, bowling in several different leagues. She was a skilled seamstress and made blankets, bedding sets, and quilts. Baking was also  her passion and she loved to cook for her family. Mrs. Stroup was devoted to her children and grandchildren and was very active in ther lives.

She is survived by her children, Paul (wife Adrienne) Gurley, of Decatur, Amanda Gurley, of Decatur, and Sara (husband Duane) Herschberger, of Milan, MO; grandchildren Melinda, Lola, Gus and Tillie Gurley, Norah Harper, Tristian, Karley, Hailey, and Holly Herschberger; great-granddaughter Coraline Polan; sister Linda (husband Kenneth) Felsman, of Savoy; brothers Bill (wife Georgia) Hull, of Litchfield, Dale (wife Pam) Hull, of Litchfield, and Larry (wife Janet) Hull, of Atwater; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Stroup was preceded in death by her parents; former husband Lewis Gurley; son Daniel Gurley; and brother Jack Hull.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Siteman Cancer Center or Cedar Ridge Cemetery.
