John W. “Jay” Casey, Jr., 90, of Hillsboro, died at 6:52 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, 2021, at Hillsboro Area Hospital

Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m., at the church, with Father Daniel Willenborg officiating. Burial will be at St. Agnes Cemetery in Hillsboro. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Mr. Casey was born on April 24, 1931, in Hillsboro, to John W. and Minnie I. (Matheny) Casey, Sr. He married Sherilan Bateman on May 13, 1956, at the Presbyterian Church in Hillsboro. Mr. Casey  served in the U.S. Army. He had duties in California and the Panama Canal. 

Mr. Casey graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1949. He worked for Premo Mazzier Distributing, Eagle Pitcher in Supervision and the City of Hillsboro at the Waste Water Plant. Mr. Casey was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Hillsboro Country Club and the Hillsboro Lions Club. He loved golf, and playing any type of cards, especially bridge. He was a devoted family man and was known as “Papa” to his grandchildren. 

Mr. Casey is survived by his wife; children, Timothy (wife, Dawn) Casey of Baldwin, MO, Lee Ann Casey-Bristow (husband, Dr. Robert Bristow) of Westfield, MA, and Jennifer (husband, Monte) Casey-Sekel of Beaver Damn, WI; six grandchildren, Shae Haber, Tara Beth Casey, Aidan Black, Liam Black, Ronan Vandermus and Quinn Casey-Sekel; great-grandchild, Jay Haber; and siblings,  Andy Casey and Kay Fialkowski.

He was preceded in death by siblings Frances Catalani, Betty Feeny, Barbara Hammon, Wayne Casey and Marie George.

Memorials may be directed to the St. Agnes Catholic Church Building Fund or Hillsboro Area Hospital.
