Jean Ann McElroy, 85, of Nokomis, died on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at her home with her family by her side.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 1, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.

Mrs. McElroy was born Aug. 3, 1937, in Coalton, to Stephen “Spike” and Dorothy (Janzekovich) Jaros. She married her love, Lyle Edward McElroy on Dec. 24, 1954, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis. They were married for over 67 years before his passing on Nov. 6, 2021.

She attended Nokomis schools. Following her marriage, she became a homemaker, staying home to raise their five children.

Mrs. McElroy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Louis CCW and an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis.

She is survived by her children, Stephanie (Paul) Kincaid, Veronica (Randy) Akin and Carla (Craig) Carey, all of Springfield, and Monica (Dan) Clavin of Nokomis; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with two due to arrive in July; and siblings, Duane Jaros of Nokomis, Janet (Randy) Kerley of Taylorville, Steven (Marti) Jaros of Tampa, FL, and June Lowder, her cousin whom she loved like a sister.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McElroy was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert McElroy of June 28, 2005; and sisters, Jeri Fox and Dorothy Woodland.
