James Dale Skinner, 72, of Morrisonville, died on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at his residence.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. until the ceremony services begin at noon on Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Morrisonville, with the Rev. Chad Foster officiating. Interment with military honors will follow the ceremony at Morrisonville Cemetery.

Mr. Skinner was known by family and friends as “Pappy,” born Dec. 3, 1948 in Taylorville, the son of Harold and Ruth (Oller) Skinner. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He married Marilyn R. Barrows on May 27, 1972 at the Taylorville Church of Nazarene, and they enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage. Before retiring, he worked as a semi-truck driver for over 40 years. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Morrisonville, and a member of the American Legion Post #721.

He loved fishing and being on the water. When he was younger he was an avid rabbit hunter and was especially proud of his military service.

Mr. Skinner is survived by his wife, Marilyn R. Skinner of Morrisonville; children, James David (Ashley) Skinner of Jacksonville, Phillip Edward (Tracie) Skinner of Morrisonville, Andrew Joseph (Jen) Skinner of Morrisonville, and Michelle Rae (Daniel) Skinner-Crowder of Taylorville; grandchildren, Bethany, Arin, David, Kira, Blake, Harley, Lydia, and Libby Skinner, Michael (Hannah) Skinner, and Austin Crowder; great grandchildren, Elaine and Eli; siblings, Larry Skinner of Blue Mound, Sheila Skinner of Taylorville, Mary (husband, Claude “Gene”) Grandfield of Blue Mound, Donald (wife, Brenda) Skinner of Harvel, and Clarissa (husband, William) Hirtman of Decatur; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
