Iven Leroy “Buster” Gwinn, Sr., 77, of Carlinville, died on Sunday morning, March 29, 2026, at Carlinville Area Hospital.

Burial was held on Friday, April 3, at Bethel Ridge Cemetery in Atwater. Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville assisted with arrangements.

Mr. Gwinn was born on Aug. 27, 1948, to Iven H. Gwinn and Juanita (Neal) Rosentreter in Virden. On Oct. 13, 1966, he married Yvonne Marie Seago at the First Assembly Church, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2025. Together, they had two children, Iven Leroy “Bear” Gwinn Jr. and Dawn Michelle Gwinn.

He joined the US Navy and served his country during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of his service, he came home and became a union millwright for Pillsbury in Springfield, where he worked for 19 years until its closing in 1991. After his job at Pillsbury, he became an over-the-road truck driver for Schwerman Trucking in Meredosia. Later, he hauled agricultural chemicals for Brandt in Raymond for several years in his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, classic country music and taking motorcycle trips with his wife all over the country. He was a master craftsman who could fix anything and had a passion for building things, including the two family homes where he and his wife lived and raised their children.

Mr. Gwinn is survived by his son, Iven Leroy “Bear” (Stacey) Gwinn, Jr. of Virden; daughter, Dawn Michelle Gwinn of Atwater; granddaughters, Jillian Neel and Autumn Gwinn; great-grandsons, Peyton, Phillip and Tyler Judge; brothers, Gary W. (Audrey) Gwinn of Carlinville and Gerald W. Gwinn of Paragould, AR; beloved dog, Max; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Iven H. Gwinn and Juanita Rosentreter; wife, Yvonne Marie Gwinn; brothers, Randy Gwinn, Larry Gwinn and Kenny Kohart; sisters, Juanita Reuter, Connie Cole and Gwen Lowe.

Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
