Hillsboro Picks Up Second Win

The Hillsboro volleyball team squared off against Greenville on Tuesday, March 23, for their fourth straight date against a South Central Conference foe in as many games.

Playing on the Comets’ home floor, the Toppers dispatched the home team 25-20 in game one, then sealed the deal with a 25-17 victory to improve to 2-2 on the season.

Kaci Papin had eight kills to lead the Hillsboro attack, matching her season-best from Hillsboro’s other win, which came against Vandalia. Haley Major and Layne Rupert added in four kills each, with Reagan DeVaisher and Alayna McCario also getting in on the act with one kill apiece. 

DeVaisher led the team in assists with eight, coupling with Jordan Jacobs, who had six assists, for setting duties. McCario and Major also had an assist each in the win.

Defensively, Emma Miller put down two blocks against the Comets, while Ally Devore and Jacobs led the back line with nine digs each. Major (seven digs), Rupert (five digs) and DeVaisher (two digs) also contributed to the strong defensive effort by Coach Emily Zimmerman’s club.

On the serving line, Rupert led the way with eight points, followed by DeVaisher with six and Devore, Major and McCario with four apiece. Jacobs also got in on the act, serving up two points for the 2-2 Toppers.

The conference trend continues for the Hiltoppers on Thursday, March 25, as they hit the road to take on Gillespie at 6 p.m.
