Helen Kay (Bourdoumis) Roberts, 78, of Hillsboro, died on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022, at 6:10 p.m. at Hillsboro Area Hospital.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, at the Abbey on Broad in Hillsboro. There will be a time for sharing stories in memory of Mrs. Roberts. Cremation rites were accorded. Burial will be held at Oak Grove Mausoleum at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.
Mrs. Roberts was born Aug. 27, 1944, in Hillsboro, to Nick Bourdoumis and Geneva (Spindel) Bourdoumis Thunhorst. She married Charles W. Roberts on June 26, 1966, at Hillsboro Methodist Church, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 2007.
She graduated from Hillsboro High School with the class of 1962 and Eastern Illinois University with the class of 1966.
During her career, Mrs. Roberts taught second grade at Madison Park and Colt schools in Litchfield for 34 years, from 1966 to 2000.
A lifelong resident of Hillsboro, she was a member of the Montgomery County Retired Teachers group.
Mrs. Roberts is survived by her siblings, Nick (wife Patsy) Bourdoumis of Hillsboro and Melva (husband Bob) Thunhorst Smith of Raymond.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, William Thunhorst; and siblings, Charles Bourdoumis and Wanda.
