Mrs. Emery was born on Oct. 1, 1926, to Walter Ross and Prudence Melinda (Minder) King in Zanesville Township, Waggoner. She graduated from Waggoner High School in 1944. On April 9, 1950, she married Paul Raymond Emery in Waggoner. They lived on the farm and raised their six children as well as chickens, cows, sheep, hogs, dogs, cats and various other creatures brought in by their children.
She was quite fond of playing Chinese checkers against her grandchildren and winning most of the time. She always had a big garden, loved driving the car, attending church, going to club meetings with her lady friends and playing Spellbound on WSMI. She always had a smile on her face and never a mean thought about anyone or anything. On Sundays, after church, there was always pot roast, carrots, potatoes and celery that all the family enjoyed.
Mrs. Emery is survived by her children, Walter E. (Bernadette) of Riverton, John C. (Mary) of Atwater, Linda K. (Nelson) Jones of Urbana, Carl E. (Kylia) Emery of Carlinville, Sharon K. (Frank) Bates of Carlinville and Paul W. (Mary) Emery of Glenarm; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Glenn, Irvine and Lyndle King; and grandson, Jason Ross Emery.
Memorials may be made to Macoupin County Animal Shelter.
