Halden Roy Wernsing, 89, of Cape Coral, FL, formerly of Harvel, died on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at 4:50 a.m. in Cape Coral, FL.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 12, beginning at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Harvel with the Rev. Joseph Nehring officiating. Burial will follow at Harvel Cemetery.

Mr. Wernsing was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Raymond, to Roy and Anna (Hamlin) Wernsing. He married Lorraine Louise Nobbe on Aug. 17, 1957, in Harvel, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 1976.

He graduated from Raymond High School with the class of 1951, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Wernsing farmed for many years. He was a member of Trinity  Lutheran Church in Harvel, the American Legion Post 299 in Raymond and Panhandle District #2 school board.

He enjoyed traveling the world while exploring different cultures and scuba diving. He was certified by the U.S. Coast Guard as a master captain of the Intercoastal Waterways and frequently took his boat from Florida to the Bahamas.

Mr. Wernsing is survived by his two daughters, Sheri A. (Kevin) Wernsing Botner of Louisville, KY, and Risa (Jeff) Wernsing Roberts of Osage Beach, MO; son, Mitchell L. (Cathy) Wernsing of Millcreek, UT; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Brittany) Piercy of Arvada, CO, Kendra Piercy of Chicago, Kelsey (Patrick) Wernsing Haukap of Auburn and Katelyn Wernsing of Springfield; great-grandson, Finley Piercy of Arvada, CO; sister, Karen (David) Bayer of Naples, FL; sister-in-law, Virginia Wernsing of Raymond; and his partner of many years, Carolyn Johnston of Cape Coral, FL.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Merrill A. Wernsing.
