Glen Louis Greenwood, 85, of Coffeen, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, at 4:45 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab in Taylor Springs.

Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 2, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, with burial following at Green Hill Cemetery in Van Burensburg. Military rites will be accorded at graveside. The Rev. Mike Skinner and the Rev. Breck Nelson of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro will officiate.

Mr. Greenwood was born April 24, 1938 in Coffeen to the late Oliver and Dorothy (Myers) Greenwood. A graduate of Vandalia High School, he attended Eastern Illinois University and then received his bachelor of science degree at Greenville College and received his elementary education teaching certificate at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He served in the United States Army and as Presidential Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, and taught for many years at Coffeen School.

Mr. Greenwood married Edwina Rose Sexton at Erlanger Chapel in Chattanooga, TN on May 14, 1960, and she preceded him on Oct. 2, 2017. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Hillsboro Jaycees, Lions Club in Coffeen, and served as secretary for the Coffeen Fire Department for 20 plus years as well as a trustee for Green Hill Cemetery in Van Burensburg. He loved gospel music and sports especially St. Louis Cardinals and Illini sports.

Mr. Greenwood is survived by his son, the Rev. Dr. Glen (Laura) Greenwood of Alton and daughter, Theresa Greenwood, Centralia; grandchildren, Cathryn (Michael) Zerkel of Alton and Rachel (Jack) Legg of Springfield, OH.

He was preceded by his parents; wife; and two sisters,  Evelyn Greenwood, in infancy and Lila Walters.
