George Michael Fravala, 70

George Michael “Mike” Fravala, 70, Hillsboro native, died on Friday, May 6, 2022.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hutchens-Stygar Funeral Home, 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Dr., St. Charles, MO. An additional visitation will be conducted Friday, May 13, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7701 Town Square Ave., Dardenne Prairie, MO. Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the church. A private interment will be held at a later date.

The youngest of three children, Mr. Fravala was born June 28, 1951, in Hillsboro, to George Henry and Virginia Ardella (Caulk) Fravala. He married Carol Steffey, and she survives.

He grew up working on the family farm before he attended Illinois State University for his undergraduate degree in business. He later received a master’s degree in business from Northern Illinois University and after years of working in the building materials industry, he started his own company, Specialty Tech LTD.

Mr. Fravala was a hard worker, and he had an inquisitive and innovative mind.

He had many hobbies and was active in his community. He was a conservationist and avid hunter. He enjoyed teaching firearms safety and inspiring an appreciation for conservation in younger generations.

Mr. Fravala enjoyed his brotherhood with his fellow Knights of Columbus. He took pleasure in carrying out their mission of serving the poor and fostering greater respect for the dignity of human life.

He was also a lifelong fan of basketball and baseball. He spent many hours coaching his daughters’ teams and jumped at every opportunity to take his family to sporting events, especially to St. Louis Cardinals games. He was a loving and playful grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Fravala is survived by his daughters, Kendra “Shelly” (Brian) Marstall and Melissa (Stephen) Hefler; grandchildren, Hannah, Samuel, Mary, Charlotte, David and a granddaughter due in June; sister, Marsha Kay (Phillip) Grabbe; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchild, Daniel; and sister, Connie (Larry) Phillips.
