Freda May Vancil, 77, of Irving, died on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 24, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow at the church. Lonnie Bruce will officiate. Burial will take place at McCord’s Cemetery in Irving at 1:30 p.m. Hough-Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mrs. Vancil was born in Irving on April 4, 1949, one of 14 children to Frank and Mary (Jones) Altevogt. She attended Hillsboro High School. She married Terry W. Vancil in Hillsboro, at the Montgomery County Court House on Jan. 11, 1965, and he survives.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Litchfield. She was employed at Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation in Taylor Springs and was the recorder for McCord’s Cemetery in Irving. She enjoyed both flower and vegetable gardening, watching wildlife-especially hummingbirds, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Vancil is survived by her children, Cindy (John Jr.) Fenton of Irving, Theresa Eckhardt of Irving and Michael (Ranae) Vancil of Granite City; granchildren, Heather Cornell, Jacob Eckhardt, Devon Fenton, Jarred Fenton, Ian Fenton, Dawson Vancil, Maitlin Vancil and Maklya Vancil; great-grandchildren, Caden Cole, Avery Cole, Haven Eckhardt, Drayvan Fenton, Emily Fenton and Augie Fenton; siblings, Sylvia (Russell) Cisco of Mt. Olive, Doris Busch of Hillsboro, Frankie (Tina) Altevogt of Ohlman, Nancy Kessinger and Diana Davis, both of Bradenton, FL, Vickie Raburn of Irving, Frank (Kathy) Altevogt of Butler and Franklin (Teresa) Altevogt of Hillsboro.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Hernandez and four brothers-in-law, Benny Hernandez, Jerry Davis, Ray Kessinger and Jim Raburn.
