Edward “Ed” D. Stanfield, Sr., 77, of Springfield, died on Friday, July 5, 2024, at his home.
Funeral serices were held on Saturday, July 13, at Staab Funeral Home in Springfield.
Mr. Stanfield was born on Oct. 18, 1946, in Florence, AL, the son of the late Edward D. Campbell and Martha (Theroux) Stanfield. He married Malinda A. Cochran on Sept. 7, 1968, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 2012.
He has been a resident of central Illinois since 1963 and received his BA in history from Illinois College and completed graduate course work at SIU Carbondale. He owned and operated Glenn Brunk Stationers and had worked for CDS Office Technologies before that.
Mr. Stanfield was one of the founding members of the Farmersville/Waggoner Ambulance Service. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, reading a good book and having a nice cigar. He enjoyed being with his dog, General, after his wife’s passing.
He is survived by his sons, Ed (Kelly) Stanfield, Jr., of Rochester, Bill (Lisa) Stanfield and Joe Stanfield, both of Chatham; grandchildren, Brennan Stanfield, Katlynn Clardy, Caleb Stanfield and Olivia Clardy; companion, Barb Woods of Springfield; brother, Allen Stanfield of Cheyenne, WY; sisters, Amy (Mike) Evans of Winchester, KY, Ann Dona of Downs and Molly (Tom Flemming) Ryan of Reston, VA and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Stanfield was preceded in death by his stepfather, Zeke Stanfield and brother, Breck Campbell.
