Edith L. Campbell, 80, of Litchfield, died at 1:55 p.m. on  Monday, Sept. 20, 2021, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Care in Gillespie.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of service on Monday, Sept. 27, at Litchfield Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at  6 p.m. at the funeral home with Deacon Leland Johns of Litchfield officiating. Burial will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Litchfield Family Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Campbell was born on Sept. 13, 1941, in Litchfield, a daughter of the late Russell J. and Lucille (Rolle) Stoddard. She graduated from Benld High School and married Mr. Robert T. Campbell on Aug. 20, 1960, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Litchfield.

At a young age, she began working at the Eastside Bakery in Benld and then went on to be employed by the State of Illinois Department of Conservation in the Fishery Division. She then owned and operated the Corner Liquor Store for several years. Along with her husband and $100 in their pockets, they opened Mac’s Fire and Safety in 1964, in Litchfield. While there she maintained the office and was the secretary and treasurer. Mac’s Fire and Safety continues operation today under their children, Russ and Theresa Campbell. It’s because of the foundation that Mrs. Campbell helped build and maintain that Mac’s Fire and Safety has thrived for 55-plus years.

When her children were younger, the family enjoyed spending family time outdoors and camping. Mrs. Campbell enjoyed bowling and was a member of the WIBC traveling bowling league. She also adored her dog Buttons.

Mrs. Campbell is survived by her husband; children, Theresa M. Campbell and Russell T. (Susan) Campbell, both of Litchfield; and sister, Florence Kucinick of Maryville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Thomas Kucinick.
