Dorothy A. McDaniel, 82, of Witt, died on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, in Hillsboro.
A service of remembrance will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20, at Hough-Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Rev. Sue Bryce of Irving Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Irving Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Mrs. McDaniel was born on Oct. 30, 1943, in Nokomis, a daughter of Robert Lynn and Wilma Emma (Altevogt) Barker. She married John E. McDaniel on Jan. 6, 1965; he preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1998.
Mrs. McDaniel was a 1961 graduate of Witt High School and later graduated from Lincoln Land Community College. She was employed with Horace Mann Insurance Company in Springfield for 20 years. She was an EMT-Paramedic for Hillsboro and Nokomis-Witt Ambulance Service and served on the Nokomis-Witt Ambulance Board.
Mrs. McDaniel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a ham radio operator and enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and motorcycle riding.
Mrs. McDaniel is survived by her daughter, Barb (Justin) Shell of Litchfield; sister, Betty L. (Carl) Rhodes of Witt; three grandchildren, Jason Shell, Jenna (fiancé Kaleb Millburg) Shell and Jared Shell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. McDaniel was preceded in death by her brothers, infant Harold Barker, Rolla Barker and Robert Barker, Jr. and a sister, Carol Quick.
