Donald Eugene Dothager, 85, of Vandalia, died on Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Crown Point Church in rural Vandalia with Pastor Pete LeDuc officiating. Burial followed at Taylor Cemetery in rural Vandalia. Miller Funeral Home in Vandalia assisted the family.
Mr. Dothager was born Oct. 2, 1937, in Bond County, to Lester Frederick and Lydia Marie (Kern) Dothager. He married Judith A. Crane on June 8, 1957, in Vandalia, and she survives.
During his career, he worked as an auto teamster, hauling cars for Ryder and Allied Trucking. He also worked at the coal mine in Coffeen, all while farming the family farm.
Mr. Dothager was affiliated with the Crown Point Church in rural Vandalia, and was a member of Temperance Lodge #16 A.F. and A.M. in Vandalia.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons, Kenneth (Shelley) Dothager and Eric (Cathy) Dothager, both of Vandalia; two granddaughters, Makenna and Aubrey; and brother, Gerald Dothager of Smithboro.
Mr. Dothager was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Linda Elam.
Memorials may be directed to Taylor Cemetery or Crown Point Church, both in Vandalia.
