Dennis James “Denny” Stewart, 67, of Nokomis, died on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at 10:25 a.m. at his home with his family by his side.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Oct. 28, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis with Father Michael Meinhart officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Nokomis.

Mr. Stewart was born June 19, 1955, in Pana, to James and Lois (Chambers) Stewart. He married Pamela Lynn Hill on Dec. 17, 1976, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis, and she survives.

He graduated from Nokomis High School with the class of 1973. He then earned his associate’s degree in automotive technology from Lincoln Land Community College. After graduation, he served as a mechanic at Heck’s Ford Sales in Nokomis before taking over the family farm.

Mr. Stewart was a lifelong farmer in the Nokomis area and took pride in working every day. When he wasn’t able to be in the fields, he always checked in to make sure he didn’t miss anything. He enjoyed going to the coffee shop in the mornings and sharing stories.

He was on the MJM board and served on the committees of the Catholic and Nokomis school boards. He also served as president on the Nokomis School Board for several years.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Stewart is survived by his children, Shannon Patrick of Chatham and Travis (Amanda) Stewart of Nokomis; grandchildren, Addison, Emerson, Grayson and Will Patrick, Jayden Morrison, Mason and Colby Stewart; twin brother, David (Janet) Stewart of Nokomis; and sisters, Ann (Cathy) Dominic and Ann Moroff, both of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Guy Moroff.
