Dana Robert Grantham, 87, of Butler, died on Monday, Feb. 13, 2024, at 5:40 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing and Rehab in Taylor Springs.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with C.J. Liddell officiating. Burial will follow at Ware’s Grove Cemetery in Butler. Bass Patton Dean funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Grantham was born on July 27, 1936 in East Chicago, IN, to the late Robert Knowlton and Ruth (Hagler) Grantham. He was a 1954 graduate of Hillsboro High School and received a bachelor degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He married Barbara Ann Gaither on August 10, 1962 in Sanner Chapel in Moweaqua, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 2023. Together they lived in Butler, moved to Pinckneyville and then returned to Butler, where they enjoyed life on the farm.
After college, Mr. Grantham joined the Army and was stationed in Huntsville, AL. He later worked as a soil scientist at the Federal Soil Conservation Service, which he retired from in 1995. He then consulted independently as a independent soil consultant in Montgomery County and surrounding counties until his 80th birthday.
Mr. Grantham was treasurer of the Optimist Club in Pinckeyville and treasurer of Butler Union Church in Butler. He loved to farm and putz around on the farm.
Mr. Grantham is survived by his children, Debra (husband John) Harriss of Pinckneyville and Kevin (wife Laurel) Grantham of Crowley, TX; grandchildren, Callie MacCormack, Carson Grantham, Daniel (Kate Presswood) Harriss, Benjamin (Melissa) Harriss and Rebekah (Matt) Lee; and great-grandchildren, Audrey MacCormack, Cooper Alvis, River Harriss, Gracelyn Harriss, Alaina Harriss and Samuel Harriss.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother in infancy.
