Several area motocross riders wrapped up the month of May at Lincoln Trail Motorsports Park in Casey as they competed in round three of the Fly Racing Showdown Series on May 30.
The group included Hillsboro’s Adam Wright and the Litchfield duo of Chris Short and Derek Birkenkamp, all of whom raced in the 30+A class. The trio finished 1-2-3 in the final standings, with Wright taking the top spot, followed by Short in second and Birkenkamp in third. Wright won the first moto and was fourth in the second, while Short, who was also 6th in the 250 A class, was fifth in the first moto and second in the second. Birkenkamp made the biggest leap from the two races, finishing first in the second moto after placing ninth in the first moto.
Montgomery County also had three racers in the Open Beginner class, with Kevin Young and Alex Komor of Litchfield and Taylor Springs’ Ty White making the trip. Young was sixth in the first moto and fifth in the second to finish fourth overall, while White and Komor were 11th and 17th overall.
In the other adult classes, Dawson and Ethan Chesnut of Sorento were fourth and eighth respectively in the Open A class, Blake Copeland of Morrisonville was first in 25+ A and 9th in Open A and Gerald Harrison, Jr., also of Morrisonville, was 5th in the 40+ B/C class.
In the youth classes, Litchfield’s Camron Bone, Hillsboro’s Hudson Wright and Morrisonville’s Callen Harrison all raced in the 65cc Junior (7-9) class, finishing 17th, 18th and 28th respectively. Bone, Wright and Morrisonville’s Corbin Durbin also ran in the 65cc Open (7-11) class. Durbin, who finished fourth in the 65cc Senior (10-11) class, was the top finisher with a fifth place finish, while Wright was 21st and Bone was 29th. On the girls’ side, Morrisonville’s Lana Harrison finished third in the 65cc Girls (7-11) class.
In the 50cc Pee Wee (4-8) class, Bone’s younger brother Hank ran 22nd, while Litchfield’s Grayson Short was 15th overall. Short also finished 15th in the 50cc Shaft/Shifter Beginner (4-8) class.
Round four of the Fly Racing Showdown Series will be on Sunday, July 25, in Casey.
Closer to home, the Montgomery County Fair will host motocross racing on Friday, June 25, starting at 7:30 p.m. The event will have 12 classes, ranging from 50cc beginners to 450 and Lite pro classes, with more than $2,000 in prize money at stake.
Entry for the money classes is $30, with entry in a second class $20. Entry for the trophy classes is $20. Grandstand admission is $5 per person or $10 for a pit pass. For more information, contact Adam Wright at 217-553-6271.
