Committee Looking For Settler Descendants

Are you a Montgomery County resident who is a descendant of the earliest settlers here?  Then the Bicentennial Committee is looking for you.

Direct descendants who still live in Montgomery County need to fill out a form tracing their lineage to one of the early settlers listed below, and return the form no later than Jan. 20.  Forms may be obtained by contacting committee members David Beal (217-246-7567) or Patsy Bourdoumis (217-532-6284), by email to, or on the Montgomery County website,  Instructions will be on the form.

Direct descendants will have a photo taken in front of the Historic Courthouse in Hillsboro at 11 a.m. on Feb. 13 in honor of the county’s 200th anniversary.  A celebration is also in the works for June 5 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, or on Oct. 2 if the pandemic requires a postponement.

Above is a list of early settlers living in Montgomery County prior to and including 1821.
