Charles David Shaffer,73, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, in Springfield.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Shaffer was born in Alton on Aug. 31, 1953, to parents, Glen “Guy” Shaffer and Mabel Gertrude Price.
He grew up in Glen Carbon. He attended Ramsey High School and Western Illinois University where he earned an MBA. He worked for NTN Bower as a Management Information Systems manager in Macomb.
Mr. Shaffer married Karen Sue Brown on January 8, 1978, and together they lived in Ramsey, Astoria, and most recently, in Panama.
His many interests included technology, science and keeping up with current events. He also had a deep love of music and was a guitarist and singer in the band, IZZI. It was usual to see him sitting on the couch playing and singing some of his favorite songs, like “Blackbird” by The Beatles. He enjoyed shooting pool and spending time with his two Great Pyrenees dogs, Brody and Chloe.
Surviving Mr. Shaffer are his wife, Karen; two sons, Adam and Andrew (Scott) Shaffer; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents and siblings.
