Carter M. Hill, 87, of Vandalia, formerly of Fillmore, died Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Greenville Nursing and Rehab Center in Greenville.

 Private graveside services will be held. Memorials at Green Hill Cemetery, rural Fillmore. Miller Funeral Home of Fillmore is assisting the family.  

He was born July 12, 1934, in Fayette County, IL, the son of Rev. Burlis O. and Mary Hylda (Carter) Hill. He married Janet Gail Alexander on August 28, 1952 in Detroit, MI, and she preceded him in death on August 20, 2008. He worked as a superintendent at ARCO Rubber Co. while in Detroit; was the owner/operator of his construction company “HELICO” for the bulk of his life; was a former Mason; and was affiliated with Fillmore Baptist Church.

 He is survived by his son, Rev. Justin Hill and Kelli, Wheeler, IL; daughters, Cindy Otto & Roger, Ramsey, IL and Crystal Lawler and Ron, Mulberry Grove, IL; brother  Paul Hill, Elsberry, MO; sister Patricia Schlicter and William, Michigan; grandchildren Heidi, Heather, Hillary and Trevor; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister Melba Webster.
