After taking a year hiatus due to COVID restrictions, Camden’s Crew returned to the links on Saturday, May 1, for the third installment of the Crush For Camden’s Crew Golf Outing, this year at Indian Springs Golf Course in Fillmore.
For the third straight year, Weiss Construction, owned by Matt and Jen Weiss, were the title sponsors and, after weeks of watching the weather, Saturday turned out to be a cool but, most importantly dry day as 88 golfers took to the course to benefit Camden Burke, the five-year-old son of Gina and Jason Burke who was diagnosed with Cri Du Chat, a genetic condition that affects the fifth chromosome. The proceeds from the outing goes directly to specialized therapies for Camden and the results have been astounding.
“This is our biggest response in terms of golfers and sponsors that we’ve ever had,” Camden’s dad Jason said. “We have had so many people and organizations rally around our little man and the outpouring of support is truly humbling. We couldn’t do what we do for Camden if it wasn’t for our community. We want to thank everyone who has been a part of our journey and we want them to know that it truly is because of them that has helped Camden be so successful.”
Golfers were treated to lunch courtesy of The Korner Store and a free drink courtesy of White and Associates as well as a golf cooler, coozie and ball marker all with the Camden’s Crew logo as a registration gift courtesy of Camden’s Crew.
Raffle prizes donated by Dollar General of Schram City, Ace Hardware of Hillsboro, Lineagen Corporation courtesy of former Hillsboro resident Rena Vanzo, and a golf outing courtesy of Sunset Hills Country Club were up for grabs as well as longest drive, longest putt and closest to the pin contests.
As with past years, Camden led the charge with a ceremonial first drive and the event was on from there with the team of Joe Webb, Josh Stone, Kevin Young, and Ryan Webb taking first overall. Second place in the A Flight was the team Greg Zimmerman, Kent Zimmerman, Chad Zimmerman and John Mekala. Third in A Flight was the team of Dr. Brian Cady, Dr. Ben Cady, Brad Cady and Michael Barberra.
First place team in the B Flight was the team of Jim Eickhoff, Alex Eickhoff, Denny Hiller and Jim Reinecke. Second place went to the team of Branden Niehaus, Michael Ginos, Nick Holtschulte and Andrew Jorn. Third place in B Flight were Greg Lipe, David Kious, Cole Bozarth and David Young.
Plans are already in the works for next year’s event and the group couldn’t be more excited.
“Its so much fun to see so many people return each year and have new faces as well,” said Camden’s mom Gina. “We couldn’t be more proud to host this and the outpouring of support is so amazing. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts and thank you so much for the love we feel.”
