Betty Ruth West, 92, of Nokomis, died on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 9:57 a.m. at Nokomis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church in rural Nokomis. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Randy West officiating. Burial will be held at Nokomis Cemetery. Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.
Mrs. West was born Oct. 30, 1928, in Moweaqua, to Marshall and Mildred (Marshall) Nichols, and was the foster daughter of Goldie Singler. She married Ray West on June 7, 1947, in Vandalia, and he preceded her in death in August 1997.
She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in rural Nokomis for 84 years.
Mrs. West loved quilting so much that she made over 100 quilts. She also loved going to church, baking and gardening in her flower garden.
She is survived by her sons, Johnie Ray (Cheryl) West, Sr., Steven Lynn (Gail) West and Randy Scott West, all of Nokomis, and Richard Eugene (Debby) West of Irving; grandchildren, Johnie (Jamie) West, Jr. of Virden, Amy Mesnard of Springfield, Sara Batty of Hillsboro, Trevor (Stacy) West of Dardenne Prairie, MO, Christina West, Trent (Krystal) West, Tyson West, Ryan West, Cameron West and Cody (Shawnee) West, all of Nokomis; 14 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Rita West of Nokomis; sister-in-law, Ethel Bland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. West was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sheila Ann West; son, Jerry West; granddaughter, Heather West; brothers, Morris (Zetta) Nichols, Lloyd (Beulah) West, Marshall Nichols, Jr. and Keith Nichols; sisters, Gerdy (Lawrence) Cole, Helen (Robert) McIntosh and Norma (Bob) Newcome; and brothers-in-law, Floyd, Charles, Max, Merle, Owen and George West.
