Betty Jean Sawyer, 92, of Collinsville, died at Gillespie Health and Rehab Center in Gillespie on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 1:19 p.m.

Mrs. Sawyer was born October 22, 1933, in Peoria, to Louis Vasel and Hazel Rhodes Vasel. She married Louis Johnson Sawyer on December 19, 1957, in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2022.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved cooking, baking and gardening. She volunteered at St. Anthony’s Hospital and was also involved with the women’s auxiliary of Bunker Hill and the Daylily Society of Alton.
Mrs. Sawyer is survived by her daughters, Luann Sawyer of Collinsville and Kathy L. (spouse, Jack) Glagola of Bethlehem, PA; grandchildren, John Robert Glagola, Louis S. Glagola, Harrison P. McLaughlin and Christopher N. (spouse, Max) McLaughlin; great-grandson, Milo Glagola; and son-in-law, John McLaughlin of Collinsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; son, Jeffrey L. Sawyer; daughter, Michele McLaughlin; and brother, Robert Vasel.
