Betty J. Bauer, 94, of Nokomis, died on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Lincoln Christian Village.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 6, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville. A funeral service will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ryan Edgecombe officiating. Interment will be held at Nokomis Cemetery.

Mrs. Bauer was born May 6, 1928, in Lincoln, to William and Clara (Dunn) Wehner. She married Earl Bauer on June 15, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lincoln, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from Lincoln High School.

Mrs. Bauer and her husband farmed in Fayette County and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis. She was a Sunday School teacher, 4-H Leader, Home Extension member, women’s group member at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church.

She was a great seamstress, wonderful decorator and had beautiful flowers around their farm. 

Mrs. Bauer worked as a census taker for many years, as well as Kamm’s Pharmacy and Bell’s Jewelry, both in Nokomis. She received an award for window decoration. Together, she and her husband enjoyed their retirement after working many years in Nokomis.

She is survived by her children, Janet (Dale) Halford of Williamsville, Jolene (Mike) Williams of Sherman and John (Diane) Bauer of Bingham; grandchildren, Angela Brooks, Aaron (Colleen) Halford, John Ryan (Jayna) Bauer, Blake (Sarah) Bauer, Jared (Chelsey) Williams and Jordan (Sarah) Williams; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bauer was preceded in death by her parents; five siblings; and grandson-in-law, Michael Brooks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
