Arthur Gene Gutierrez, Sr., 91, of Taylor Springs, died Sunday, March 15, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro on Monday, March 23, at 11 a.m. Fr. Daniel Willenborg will preside. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hough-Dean Funeral Home along with Moose Rites beginning at 4 p.m. Fr. Daniel Willenborg will conclude the visitation with a prayer at 6 p.m. Burial will be at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro.
Mr. Gutierrez was born on May 20, 1934, in Taylor Springs, a son of Miguel and Gregoria (Degado Veliz) Gutierrez. He was employed by General Motors as an auto assembler. He married Dixie Lee Hart on May 29, 1960, in Taylor Springs, where they also made their home and raised their children.
Mr. Gutierrez was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro. He enjoyed the outdoors while hunting, fishing and camping. He also loved dancing, woodworking and Chicago Cubs baseball. Mr. Gutierrez earned his Pilgrim Degree of Merit of the Loyal Order of Moose in 1995, which held deep and special meaning to him.
Mr. Gutierrez is survived by two sons, Chris (Sherri) Gutierrez of Hillsboro and Arthur Gutierrez, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Marcia Lynn (Mike) Flowers of Celeste, TX; 19 grandchildren, Kasey (Brad) Havens, Lindsey (Duke) Dixon, Aaron (Alyssa) Flowers, Shannon (Toby) Dobrinich, Jennifer Gutierrez-Balestri, Kim Gutierrez, Tres (Kaitlyn) Gutierrez, Thad (Kari) Gutierrez, Rocky Gutierrez, Garrett (Katie) Gutierrez, Emma Gutierrez, Carter Gutierrez, Remington Gutierrez, Ella Gutierrez, Grace Gutierrez, Piper Gutierrez, Rachel (Ryan) Duff, Randy (Andrea) Harrell and Ryan Harrell; step-grandchildren, Ashley Hartman and Britney Hartline; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lusi Walker of Fairmount City, Evangeline Marsee of Hillsboro and Juanita Boehler of Stafford, AZ.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Gutierrez was preceded in death by his daughter, Angel Harrell; five brothers; and two sisters.
