Anthony “Tony” Joel Berkman, 60, of Sorento, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 11, 2021, at his residence.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Perfetti-Assalley Funeral Home in Sorento.

Mr. Berkman was born March 2, 1961, in Belleville, to Freddie D. and Shirley K. (Eaves) Berkman, Sr.

He worked his entire life as a self-employed mechanic. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together, especially motors.

Mr. Berkman loved four wheeling and riding his motorcycles as fast as possible. He was also a prankster with a great sense of humor. He loved waking his children up with a Super Soaker shower, and if a food fight broke out, he was probably behind it.

He is survived by his children, Angela Sanchez, Natalie Merritt, Anthony Knight, all of California, Kristi Branscum and Kadi Weaver, both of Poplar Bluff, MO; several grandchildren; brothers, Tim (wife Leslie) Berkman of Worden, Greg Berkman of Greenville and Roger (wife Angie) Berkman of Staunton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Berkman was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Kylie and Shaun; and brother, Freddie D. Berkman, Jr.
