Anna Lou Hefley, 84, of Hillsboro, died early in the morning on April 29, 2026, at Montgomery County Nursing and Rehabilitation in Taylor Springs.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. at the church,with Pastor Michael Plummer officiating. Interment will be at Edwards Chapel Cemetery in Donnellson. Hough-Dean Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Mrs. Hefley was born on Jan. 14, 1942, in Ramsey. She was a graduate of Ramsey High School. Following graduation, she attended beauty school. For years she was employed as a beautician, and as many people will fondly remember her, a cook at Hillsboro High School.
She was devoted to her family and found immense joy in serving others, touching numerous lives over the years. She served the community in various ways; as a Cub Scout Den Mother, and both a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, as a 4-H Leader and as a Senior Representative for Old Settlers. She was a faithful, active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro and her life reflected the love of Jesus. In her free time, she was an avid gardener who loved canning and sharing the fruits of her labor, quilting, bird watching and spending time with her beloved family.
Mrs. Hefley is survived by her son, James (Tap) Hefley; daughter, Debbie Berry; sister, Nancy Reynolds; grandchildren, Matthew White, Brieanne (Sam) Schumann, James J. Hefley and Jamie Hefley; and two great-grandchildren, Markus and Merrick White.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hefley; parents, Russell and Dorothy Maroney; brother, Earl Moreland; and son-in-law, Mark Berry.
