Alice (Young) DeRight Kern, 93, of Hillsboro, died on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Tremont Ridge Assisted Living Facility.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 2, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Hough-Dean Funeral Home, located at 1119 School St. in Hillsboro. A private graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 3.

Mrs. Kern was born on Nov. 8, 1932, a daughter of Harold Dwight and Ruth (Greene) Young. She began her career at the dress factory in Hillsboro and was also a receptionist for Dr. V.J. Parlante. She married Daryel DeRight on May 8, 1955, in Coffeen.

Mrs. Kern was an avid golfer. During her many years of being a member of the Hillsboro County Club, she reigned as club champion. After she and her husband retired, they moved to Arizona. 

Mrs. Kern was blessed with and is survived by three children, Denise Gregg of Hillsboro, Greg (Gaye) DeRight of Hillsboro and Lori (Roger) Cords of Rensselaer, IN; grandchildren, Jacob Klump, Travis Klump, Vince DeRight, Adam Gregg, Tyler Gregg and Ashton Woll; numerous great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Betty Roper, Judie Volk and Bev Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Rosalie Mosley, Burnetta (Nippy) Mohl, Russell Young, Harold Young, Jim Young, Bob Young, David Young and Jerry Young.
