Alfred E. Vaniter, 75, of Gillespie, died on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at 8:40 a.m. at his residence.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 25, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie. Graveside services were conducted Monday, June 27, at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Mr. Vaniter was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Jacksonville, to Bobby and Flossie (Evans) Vaniter. He married Rhoda Striplin, and she survives.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he owned Vaniter Landscaping.

Mr. Vaniter was a member of Cornerstone Ministries and former Kiwanis member.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, LeAnn (Greg) Wilson of Litchfield, RoiLynn (significant other Rich Ferguson) McClanahan of Springfield, Dawn (J.J.) McDaniel, Michelle (Chad) Whaley, Kerry (Colette) Claussen, all of Gillespie, and Damon (Sandy) Claussen of Iowa; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Robert) Odell of Manchester and Karen (James) Woods of Murrayville; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Vaniter was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Beverly Rawlings.
