Alex L. Bone, 32, of Sorento, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, surrounded by his family after bravely battling cancer.
A memorial visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at the Municipal Building, located at 105 E. Taylor St. in Sorento. A potluck will follow the memorial visitation. Friends and relatives are asked to bring a dish to share for the meal and a good story about Mr. Bone. The family has entrusted Assalley Funeral Home in Greenville with the arrangements.
Mr. Bone was born on Feb. 18, 1994, in Litchfield, the son of Terry Joe and Cheryl Ann (Oary) Bone. He was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was a young man with a wild heart and a free spirit. He loved to make people laugh and crack all the dad jokes.
He was a 2012 graduate of Greenville High School; he then went on to be a laborer. In 2018, he became a father to his pride and joy, Ava. When he was not working to provide for his little girl, he loved to spend his time with her. Some of the things they enjoyed together were reading, fishing, going to the movies and playing ball in the yard. He was a proud dad. He enjoyed showing up for his daughter and seeing her play her heart out on the field.
Not only was Mr. Bone a proud dad, but he was also a proud uncle. He cherished each one of his nieces and nephews. He would root them on like they were his own. He will be missed by all the lives he has touched.
Mr. Bone is survived by his parents, Cheryl and Terry Bone of Sorento; daughter, Ava JoAnn Bone, at home; sisters, Kayla (Zachary Warnecke) Bone of South Roxana and Trysha (Jacob Carter) Bone of Sorento; nephews and nieces, Mason, Olivia, Myles, Journie, Indie, Brooklyn and Colter; paternal grandmother, Patty J. Bone; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Donald L. and Charlotte Oary; and paternal grandfather, Robert LeRoy Bone.
The family requests memorials in lieu of florals or gifts of any kind. Memorials may be made to the family of Mr. Bone during the visitation and potluck, or mailed to the Family of Alex L. Bone, 109 N. Sanderson St., Sorento, IL 62086.
