Sixty-one new positives the last two days of August–29 on Monday and 32 on Tuesday–pushed the total number of new COVID-19 cases for the month to 416, according to numbers from the Montgomery County Health Department.
That makes the new cases for August the fourth highest monthly total since the pandemic began in March 2020, behind only November and December 2020 and January 2021.
The August surge came after four months when new cases were substantially lower: 79 in April, 93 in May, 20 in June, and 71 in July.
The local health department continues to offer all three vaccinations at their main office on Route 185 in Taylor Springs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each Monday and Thursday. Simply call the health department (217-532-2001) upon arrival and tell them you need a shot in your vehicle.
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, the Litchfield School District announced one new positive at the middle school, four at the high school, one at Colt School, and one at Madison Park.
