Wilburn “Wayne” DeBoard, 72, of Mt. Olive, died on Monday, Feb. 5, 2024 at 8:46 p.m. at his home.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive with Pastor Zack Krampien officiating.
Becker and Son Funeral home in Mt. Olive assisted the family.
Mr. DeBoard was born on April 18, 1951, in Trumann, AR, to the late Andrew Jackson DeBoar and Adele Beatrice Cattlet. He was raised in Wilmington. He married Cindy Sue Alverson on Aug. 18, 1984, in Decatur.
Mr. DeBoard served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1974, where he bravely served in Vietnam. He worked as a Lieutenant and firearms instructor at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro, retiring after 32 years in 2002. He also dedicated many years to serving as a police officer for the Mt. Olive Police Department.
Mr. DeBoard was a committed member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive and took great pride in being a member of the Mt. Olive VFW.
Mr. DeBoard is survived by his wife, Cindy; two sons, Zackary (Grace Leveillee) Gray and Brent Andrew (Emerald Abaddon Brewer) DeBoard; Amy Jo (Kyle) Gerdes, Beth (John Griffin) DeBoard; brother, Jeff; sister, Alice Futch; and grandchildren, Mallory, Cohen, Kate, Abby, Tyler and Klaire.
Mr. DeBoard was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Charles, Jim, Bill, Joe and Mike; and three sisters, Naydene, Etta and Virginia.
