William Harrel Clinard, 87, of Hillsboro, died on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 9:45 p.m. at Montgomery Nursing & Rehab in Taylor Springs.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mark Noyes and the Rev. Ralph Ward will officiate. There will be a private family inurnment in Ware’s Grove Cemetery in Butler, with Military Rites accorded by the Department of Defense.
Mr. Clinard was born June 30, 1936, in Palmer, to the late Ward and Dorothy (Kurfiss) Clinard. Graduating in 1954 from Raymond High School in Raymond, he went on to join the U.S. Army. He married Katherine Caroline Hoffman on Aug. 21, 1959, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2020.
He was employed as a manager at Allis Chalmers in Springfield, then a production manager at Echlin Brake Parts in Litchfield. Along with his wife, he owned and operated Henry’s Greenhouse in Hillsboro, which is now Robin’s Nest Florist. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and cleaned the church for many years and was a member of the Masonic Temple in Springfield and the Hillsboro Illinois Auxiliary Police. He coached girls softball for his daughters and granddaughters and he loved to run.
Mr. Clinard is survived by his children, Michelle (husband, Junior) Whitlow of Hillsboro, Duane (wife, Deanna) Clinard of Irving and Stacey (husband, Randy) Ward of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, Brandi Reynolds, Daniel Whitlow, Brooke Mullink, Stephanie Tyson, Shaun Clinard, Blake Clinard, Tressie Clinard, Brodie Clinard and Kayli Christer; twelve great-grandchildren; and sister, Susan Carter of Morrisonville.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Charles Darrel “Shorty” Clinard; and brother-in-law, Art Carter.
