Warren E. ‘Gene’ Miles, 81

Warren Eugene “Gene” Miles, 81, of Nokomis, died on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at his home with his family at his side.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Nokomis. Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church. Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis is assisting the family.

Mr. Miles was born Feb. 7, 1942, in McLeansboro, to Warren Harding and Eva Rita (Pieper) Miles. He married Gloria Kamer Cox, and they later divorced. He then married Jane Parker on June 20, 1981, and she survives.

He graduated from Nokomis High School with the class of 1960 and went on to attend the University of Illinois.

Mr. Miles and his father, Warren, owned and operated Miles Construction, and their very early employees were his sons, Doug and Jeff. He was also the owner of Miles Ford in Nokomis for many years.

He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Jaycees, Knights of Columbus, Masons, Shriners and the Nokomis City Council. He served Montgomery County as a board member for over 16 years and truly enjoyed it.

Mr. Miles enjoyed golfing, yard work and mowing, and was a car enthusiast. Most of all, he loved sitting on his patio watching his grandchildren ride bikes and play ball in the yard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Doug (Darla) Miles of Arlington, TX, Jeff (Jill Bertolino Fasiq) of Chatham and Jessie (Justin) Hamrock of Sherman; grandchildren, Jordan Miles, Austin Miles, Jack Hamrock, Joslyn Hamrock and Jace Hamrock; great-granddaughter, Shine; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Debbie (Mike) Coling of Greenville and Neil (Deb) Parker of Ft. Myers, FL.

Mr. Miles was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Judy Lynn Tumulty.
