Sandra Ellen (Coffman) Brauer, 86, of Concordia Village in Springfield, formerly of Litchfield, died in her sleep on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018.

A private gathering will be held Friday, Nov. 16, at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. An open house will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at Concordia Village Chapel with a memorial service to commence at 12 p.m.

There will be a simple lunch of cold sandwiches immediately following the service. Plummer Funeral Home of Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Brauer was born July 26, 1932, to Lloyd E. and Margaret P. (West) Coffman of Roodhouse. She married Wayne P. Brauer June 28, 1953, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 2011.

She graduated from Washington University School of Nursing in St. Louis, MO, in 1954. She and her husband lived for a short time in Roodhouse before moving to Litchfield in January 1959.

Mrs. Brauer and her husband raised four sons while owning and operating Coffman Drug Store on State Street in Litchfield, a landmark of the downtown business district.

She and her husband were longtime members of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, sharing their time and talents with the congregation. An active volunteer serving the church and community, she also worked as a part-time nurse for St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield for several years in the early 60s.

Mrs. Brauer and her husband were active in Rotary International and were each recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. She opened her home to various Rotarian travelers from across the globe. In their retirement years, they found time to travel and were able to create wonderful memories together on the road.

She touched everyone she knew with her caring, giving and generous soul.

Mrs. Brauer is survived by her four sons, Lon (Djuana Tucker), Geoff (Jean), Al (Darlene) and Grant (Kim Pulliam); grandchildren, Erin (Tim) Pratt, Adam, Matt, Colene, Shannon, Steve (Becky) and Olivia (Mike Jones) Brauer, Shari (Tyler) Oesterreich, Emily (Jim) Chambers, Karlie (Pulliam) and Megan (Andy) Nollman; and great-grandchildren, Maxlyn and Cora Chambers, Lydia and Madelyn Jones, Tyler Nollman and Vivian Pulliam.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Margaret "Peg" Ferguson on May 17, 2012.
