Ronald L. "Sam" Maedge, 77, of Lake KaHo, Mt. Olive, formerly of Staunton, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at 10:17 p.m. at Heritage Health in Staunton.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8, from  5 to 8 p.m. at Net Community Church in Staunton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Derrick Taylor officiating. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Maedge was born April 1, 1941, in Livingston, to the late Louis and Laura (McDonald) Maedge. He married Shirley Luttman, and they later divorced. He then married Diana Ruth Ray on Feb. 28, 1973, and she preceded him in death on July 6, 2000. He then married Vicki Umberger on Oct. 26, 2006, in Staunton, and she survives in Lake KaHo, Mt. Olive.

He served in the U.S. Navy. He was the Staunton Township commissioner for many years, and was also a custodian at Staunton unit schools for many years.

He was a member of the Net Community Church of Staunton,  Staunton VFW Post #1241, a past Staunton police officer and past member of the Staunton Volunteer Fire Department.

Besides his wife, Vicki, he is survived by three sons, Tim Smiddy, Ron (Amy) Maedge, Jr. and Mike (Becky) Maedge, all of Staunton; three stepchildren, Debra (Tom) Gonet of Nokomis, Tami (Randy) Fox of Springfield, MO, and Kenny (Kim) Carlock of Nokomis; ten grandchildren, Landon Maedge, Kinslee Maedge, Briar Maedge, Craig Gonet, Nikki Gonet, Dallas Blose, Terin Leigh,  Josh Leigh, Kaylee Carlock and Kinzley Carlock; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wally (Marlene) Maedge of Edwardsville and Bill (Alice) Maedge of Belton, MO; brothers-in-law, Danny Ray, George Wolbert and Dick Umberger; sisters-in-law, Shirley Ray, Peggy Bellmon, Kathy Ray, Helen Maedge and Sherrill Umberger; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Diana, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Bob Maedge; three sisters, Evelyn, Annabelle and Wanda; father-in-law, Blaine Ray; mother-in-law, Ruth Ray; brothers-in-law, Joe Ray, Linden Ray, Glenn Ray and Mike Bellmon.

Memorials may be made to The Patriot Club at Staunton Elementary School or to Net Community Church of Staunton.
