Mr. Funk was born Dec. 11, 1933 in Litchfield, a son of Michael and Katherine (Semplowski) Funk. Mr. Funk graduated from Litchfield High School with the Class of 1952, and married Nancy Lu Gilly at St. Mary’s Rectory in Litchfield, on Jan. 19, 1957.
Mr. Funk deeply loved America, which was instilled in him as a child by his immigrant father. He was stationed in Europe as he served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956. Once back home, he worked for his father-in-law, Rex Gilly, at Gilly Sales of Litchfield for 21 years and was a roofer for 16 years with the Roofers Local 112, in Springfield. He loved being with his family and socializing with his friends at the Moose. He was also an avid reader, especially enjoying history, and a fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and the Fighting Illini. He and his brother, Joe Funk, were part of the 54th Land of Lincoln Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in April of 2019, which he enjoyed immensely.
